What causes Wry Neck?
This can be caused by irritation of facet joints, cervical ligaments, Trigger points, sleeping in awkward position, uncomfortable pillow, poor posture, quick sudden movements of the neck, previous trauma to your neck or reasons unknown.
What are the Signs and Symptoms?
Signs and symptoms of wry neck are sudden neck pain and stiffness, limited cervical range of motion (mainly in the direction of the side that is sore), head locked in an abnormal position.
How do I treat Wry Neck?
In the initial stages applying heat to the area will help to relax the muscles in the surrounding area, however depending on the severity of pain that you experience, a visit to your GP for pain relief may be recommended. Once the initial spasm has occurred, a range of Myotherapy techniques can be applied and can see results in first treatment, however it can be self-limiting making recovery between 1 – 2 weeks. Visiting a trained Chiropractor, Osteopath or Physiotherapist will compliment your treatment and encourage the body’s natural healing process.
