Massage therapy is a natural healing process encouraging the body to return to normal function. ‘Encouraging the body to return to normal function' what do you mean? Massage Therapy is applied to the soft tissue of our bodies such as skin, fascia, muscles, tendons and ligaments to elicit a change. This may be physical and/or psychological depending on the individual and their desired outcome. Massage has a number of benefits such as improves circulation, elevates mood, provides relief from pain, prevents injury, reduces anxiety, aids in relaxation, reduces stress, improves the quality of sleep, improves the immune system and improves range of motion. We believe Massage therapy treats the whole body and has an effect on all 11organ systems, restoring a person back to their normal function.
Mary is a 35 year old female. She has a full-time job as a primary school teacher. Mary also has 2 children under the age of 5 and a husband that also has a full-time job. Mary has been highly stressed over the last couple of months with report writing, lead up to school holidays and juggling work/life balance. Mary hasn't had a good night sleep, she has had consistent headaches and her body just feels tense. How will massage benefit Mary? Touch stimulates our nervous system releasing natural hormones around our body to help regulate homeostasis such as Dopamine (Happy hormone), Serotonin (Calming hormone) and Endorphins (Pain relief hormone). So, during massage Dopamine and Serotonin are released encouraging a sense of wellbeing and relaxation. This allows Mary's body to relax, reduce tension through her muscles and relieve symptoms of her headache, leaving Mary feeling better than she has in the past weeks. The benefits of massage don't just stop there, they continue on into the days following after treatment. Mary will have a great night sleep without interruptions, she will have a sense of well-being and be able to think clearer as her tension and headaches have subdued. So, ‘encouraging the body to return to normal function' relates to the whole body, physically and psychologically being balanced.
We all get the same amount of time each and every day of the year. If we were to break this down it is 86,400 seconds, 1,440 minutes, 24 hours a day and we all choose to use it differently. Will you take the time to look after the most important thing - you?
